Yes, I am talking about Chris and I. No, I am not talking about the fact that Chris is bilingual and speaks Spanish, and I don’t. You’d think that over a decade together I would have learned by now…
The languages I am talking about reference husband language and wife language. More specifically the techy husband trying to talk to the not so techy wife.
A few weeks ago a friend asked if we were a techy family. I don’t nessacarily think so. I have an older generation iPad, I think an iPad 2…maybe. The kids have an iPad mini that Chris pieced together and I pull it out and use it in times of desperation when I need to get mom things done. And then I have a desk top, I think it is also something Chris fixed. It certainly wasn’t new and I’ve had it for a few years.
Now Chris on the other hand, is a techy. He doesn’t neccessarily always have the latest and the greatest. But he certainly knows what the latest and the greatest is and he keeps his eye on it. Always Apple products, except for this Samsung smartphone that has him straying from his die hard dedication to Apple products. I can’t really keep up with what devices or computers Chris has. I know he has his phone, and a MacBook right now, and what do you know, the other day he pulls out his iPad. I didn’t even know he had one. He’s always selling, buying and trading devices. I can’t keep up.
So he’s holding his iPad and and asks where my 30 pin charger is. I don’t know what that is. And this is where the language barrier between the two of us comes in. I tell Chris I have no idea what he’s talking about. He laughs, holds up is iPad again and asks, “Where is your iPad charger?”
I respond, “Oh, that’s what you need to call it if you want me to know what you are talking about. It’s on the buffet table.”
Now he has the same look on his face that I just had on mine, “What’s that?” he asks.
I chuckled and he suggested that we call the buffet table the “small table.” We’ve had it for nearly 5 years…I’m not sure what we’ve bee calling it all this time, but it is now the small table where occassionally my iPad charger can be found.
